Summer Skincare Essentials 2015 | Review ~ { Boho Vanity }

August 07, 2015

Although I haven't spent a ton of time outdoors this summer between work and starting classes, if there is a blank space in my schedule I try to go out and get some fresh air whether it's strolling around the yard with the dogs or tending to the vegetable garden. In terms of protecting my skin from the sun, I feel as though I take it fairly seriously in hopes that I can preserve what I have now for as long as possible. and to simply help my fussy skin look its best. My collection of lotions and potions stashed around the house is quite excessive; however, these four products have been my routine summer staples of the last few months.

Currently I use the Block Island Organics Natural Mineral Sunscreen in SPF 30 which has quickly become my go-to sun care item once the weather got hot. I not only love how ultra natural the face and body formula is, but also how it seems to melt evenly into the skin. The main ingredient used to shield the rays is zinc which offers safe, reliable coverage; however, since it is a literal blocker it does leave that inevitable white cast in photographs. Besides the fact that they sell quality, wholesome products, supporting business like this that are both eco-friendly and family-owned makes purchasing that much more worth it. Interestingly enough, the company yields from the tiny state of Rhode Island which is isn't that far from the towns I grew up in. It's a small world.

As I have generally been into the minimal makeup vibe lately, my typical routine has consisted of applying a facial lotion with some powder on top to keep my oily skin moisturized yet mattifyed throughout the day. If it is a particularly hot or humid out, I will then finish with a misting of the Dr. Jart+ Pore Medic Pore Minish Mist which feels so refreshing to spritz on. It sets to a dry, yet soft layer that keeps the oil and sweat at bay.

Before bed I will wash my face with an exfoliating cleanser and apply a cocktail of hydrating creams and oils from my hairline to the base of my neck. One of my favorite nighttime products at the moment is the Reviva Labs Eye Complex Firming Cream which I found at Ulta for under fifteen bucks. The botanical ingredients soothe the delicate under-eye area while plumping up any fine lines, creating a youthful, wide-awake look.

Lastly, the all-time best faux tanner I have ever used and my current go-to for sunless bronzing is the Vita Liberata USA pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse in Medium. Not only is the gentle formula certified organic, it keeps my skin hydrated between uses giving it a soft, velvety feel. The tan that instantly appears on my pale skin is so realistic and leaves only the faintest scent until it is washed off in the shower. Whether I apply the mousse using the foam mitt or cut it with lotion, I experience no streaks, splotches, or unsightly marks even as it gradually fades away.
