As part of their Holiday 2013 collection, Urban Decay released some old favorites and a few new products including this beautiful highlighter called the Illuminated Shimmering Powder. This versatile product can be applied anywhere to add a luminous glow, whether that be dusted on the collar bones and arms for a touch of radiance or on top of the cheekbones with a fluffy brush. In pan it's a soft, muted champagne shade with shimmer and tons of light catching sparkles. When applied to the skin, the color fades and you are left with a sort of frosty shine and glitter.Texture
The powder feels so silky soft and blends well onto the skin. Urban Decay claims that since it is baked on a terra cotta disc, it has a high level of shimmer 'without the metallic look of cheaper formulas'. The texture is slightly chalky and like with most highlighters the color and shine fades when blending. It is buildable though, and each layer gives a more bold, almost metallic effect. It is definitely a more dramatic highlighting product even when applied lightly, and if you are use to the more subtle, glowing type then this might be a disappointment.Lasting Power
This product has a great staying power of six to seven hours without much wear. It start to disappear at the end of the night on my oily skin but never turned patchy. Some of the glitter does travel to other parts of the face and body as time goes on, but it's hardly noticeable and easily wiped off.
The box that the powder is enclosed in is a shimmery suede material with floral print and a large mirror inside. Beneath the powder in a separate slot is a soft, flat makeup brush. I usually discard the added brushes that come with makeup products, however this one is of such nice quality that I love using it to apply the powder to both my face and body. Although the package design is beautiful, it is definitely bulky and will take up a lot of room in a makeup bag or drawer.Find
The Illuminated Shimmering Powder is an Ulta exclusive and can be found in store or online.
This shimmering powder is one of the more unique highlighters I have in my collection. The glittery, intense glow it gives is nothing short of gorgeous, however on the face it isn't entirely suitable for natural, everyday looks. It creates a beautiful hint of sparkle when buffed onto the body, and can be worn to catch the light of the summer sun or the candlelight of a romantic night out in winter. I personally feel like the price tag is a bit high, but it's one of those products that will last forever since so little is needed.
