Bargain Bronzer: Glimmer Bronze - A Review
"Go from pale to princess to beach goddess...in a heartbeat! Brush on lighweight, silky shimmer with this sun-kissed powder. Sheer, loose powder made to dust on eyes, cheeks, shoulders and just about any spot you dare. Creates a flawless finish, instant luminosity and a warm California glow you can wear all-year round."
This cleverly named powder by Bonne Bell is called Glimmer Bronze in the shade Gold 'n Glitz. I think if 'glimmer' really means what I hope it does (shimmer and glitter put together) then that might just be my new favorite word. This loose bronzing powder is basically summer in a jar. It gives a light, tanned glow that looks as if you've been on a sunny vacation and came back with a healthy complexion. It's a bronze, sort of coppery shimmer with tiny glitters that when blended out gives an almost golden sheen.
Formula
This loose powder is so silky and soft in texture. As you can see from the swatches below, it even blends out nicely and is generously pigmented. The staying powder really impressed me as it lasted a full 8 hour day with only a little bit of fading. The luminosity of this product makes it a perfect summer color that will help lighter complexions look more tanned and darker ones look more golden.
For the most natural application on pale skin, use a light hand and a fluffy face brush to either contour or bronze all over. Dust a little on your neck and decollete to ensure your face matches those areas.

Inexpensive & Natural Ways to Exfoliate the Skin
Having attended aesthetics school, I know all about the most extravagant and powerful ways to enhance the skin by exfoliation. Unfortunately, the average woman does not have the funds or spare time to go to the salon to have a routine facial, laser treatment, microdermabrasion session, glycolic peel, or any other service for that matter. There are many ways you can achieve beautiful, youthful looking skin at home for free or at an affordable cost.
Definition
For those unfamiliar with the term, exfoliation is the 'shedding of a surface'. In terms of skincare, this basically means the process of getting rid of the top layer of skin which most of the time includes dry, dead, or dirty skin cells. It also improves circulation, can lessen the appearance of cellulite, clears up acne, reduces redness and hyperpigmentation, and smooths fine lines and wrinkles. It's a weekly process that can result in
more radiant and clean looking skin each time it's performed.
How
The most natural way to exfoliate is to manually rub the skin in circular motions with a tool or exfoliant (product used to exfoliate). Any other motion of scrubbing is fine too as long as it is not rough or does not stretch the skin. If you are applying a mask or peel as a chemical exfoliant, simply spread a thin layer on while avoiding your eyes.
Face
Exfoliating the face is vital to it's health, however it must be done in a gentle manner or else it could result in adverse effects. Be very careful when using any harsh products or tools on your face because the skin there is very delicate. Too much scrubbing and scraping can cause more pigmentation flaws, wrinkles, acne, and other unwanted problems.
It is also very important to not exfoliate your face daily! I know some sources may say it's fine and by all means, it is your choice; however it is not always going to benefit normal skin. The new layer of cells that is revealed needs time heal and 'breathe'; and by scrubbing at it again it will sometimes cause irritation. It can also create more oil production as the skin tries to protect that new layer, which may in turn create breakouts and also possibly broken capillaries, redness, scarring, and other issues.
Treat your face like you would a baby's; it is precious, super delicate, and needs to be handled gently. If you find your face to be super flaky or in need of extra exfoliation, be really light handed. Also, don't go anywhere near your eyes with an exfoliant, including anywhere under the brow to about mid way down the nose.
Body
When it comes to exfoliating the body, there really isn't any rules. The skin is a bit tougher and can handle the abrasiveness of chemicals or scrubbing more often. Personally, I exfoliate my body probably twice or three times a week in the shower. It helps to smooth your skin and make it look more fresh. If you fake bake with a self tanner or just want your moisturizer to soak in deeper, exfoliating right before application will make a big difference. It also helps to prevent or expose ingrown hairs after shaving and waxing too.
Cloth
The average facecloth that can be found in your bathroom is a perfect light exfoliant and can be added to anyone's routine. Make sure the cloth is wet with water before use and also that it has some sort of texture. I like to put my cleanser on my face and wash it with my fingers first, then before rinsing use the damp cloth to work in the rest of the product. A loofah is another type of material that works well to deep clean the body while exfoliating.
Brushes
A manual or rotating facial brush is another great tool. The circular motion gets the blood flowing and can help to even out skin tone and fade scars. One of my all time favorite ones that looks like a giant toothbrush actually came from the Dollar Store. I use the same method with the facecloth to exfoliate with this tool, using my hands to cleanse first then going over it again with the brush.
I'm sure you have heard of the ever so popular Clarisonic which is a very expensive vibrating brush. If you have the extra to spend it's useful but for us with beauty budgets doing the rotating manually can be just as effective. If you have your heart set on an electronic exfoliator but don't want to break the bank, try the kit Sigma offers. It's around $40 and comes with a lot of different heads to try, even some that can be used on the body.
Sugar
Sugar is a sweet way to create smooth skin. Use either white or brown granulated sugar and gently buff it into the skin. Mix it with olive oil or another emollient such as jojoba or honey for a super moisturizing treatment for your body. It's perfect to smooth roughness or bumps as it contains glycolic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) which breaks down the proteins of dead skin. Actually, the first post I ever did was of my favorite cheap homemade sugar scrub mixture that I still use today.
Sea Salt
A little more harsh than sugar, sea salt is another natural exfoliant that can even help to clear up the skin too. A very cheap way to use the salt to your advantage is to rub sand on your body at the beach. The saltiness and grit of the sand works to slough off any roughness. It can be great for drying up acne and getting out the dirt that's deep in the pores. I used this product all last summer and it worked really well for me. Make sure the label reads sea salt and not table salt.
Scrubs
If you're not one of those all natural everything girls, then a store bought scrub can be a convenient option. It may be a bit more expensive, however I have tried a few different scrubs from drugstores like Wal-mart that have been great. The St.Ives Apricot Scrub is a cheaper classic scrub that has little particles of apricot shell in it. There are also some cleansers by Biore and Clean and Clear that have exfoliating beads in them for the most gentle scrub of them all. Use your judgement when deciding whether or not the grit of the scrub is too harsh for everyday use.
Peels & Masks
One of the most fun ways to get that glow is simply slapping on an at home peel or mask. It's a special treatment that feels relaxing while effortlessly making your skin look glowy and fresh. I love the Freeman brand masks that are $3.99 for a good sized tube and come in a ton of varieties. Try the Pineapple Facial Enzyme Mask for a deep weekly exfoliation. Keep in mind that although you are not physically scrubbing at the skin, a mask that says it is exfoliating will still take the place of a manual one. If the mask or peel contains an enzyme or anything citrus or fruity then chances are it's an exfoliant.
Experience
Ever since I started to routinely exfoliate my face, I have noticed a huge difference in my skin's texture and appearance. It is definitely less red, and a lot of my acne scars have been faded. I don't get blemishes as often, and my problem black heads are less prominent. I notice that my makeup goes on much smoother, and looks a lot more flawless. Not only does my skin basically look healthier, but I just feel extra clean; like all the impurities are washed away. The skin on my body does look more 'alive' and glowing whenever I exfoliate, allowing my self tan to look more even and to make me look more bright and fresh.
Try adding this extra step to your skincare routine and see if you can tell the difference.

imPRESS Press-On Manicure - A Review
These bright and funky nails by Broadway are from the imPRESS Press-on Manicure collection. I'm sure you've seen them everywhere by now, however I'd like to give you my experience and opinion.
imPRESS is a trendy 'grown up' version of the press-on nail that reminded me of the long and tacky ones I use to have when I was little (and that lasted for maybe an hour). This fierce purple and hot pink cheetah print caught my eye even though there were some pretty solid colors and a few more unique prints to choose from at my store.
What's Included
The set I picked up is called D060 'Over the Moon'. Included in the adorable nail polish bottle shaped packaging was 24 individual nails in 12 sizes. If you have average sized finger nails, you might be able to get two uses out of this product.
It also came with a 'prep pad' to cleanse the nails with right before application. This takes off any oil or other residue on the nail so that it is dry and clean and the adhesive can stick better. There is also a super small nail file patch included to shorten the nails if you wanted to.

Quality
I have relatively small finger nails and found the imPRESS faux nails to fit nicely. They do look a little big in the photos, however they felt really comfortable. All the nails have a tiny number on the back of them indicating size, so if both of your hands have identical shaped nails then you can simply match up the numbers for each hand. Sometimes the medium sized nails can tend to look alike, so knowing the exact size is useful for a precise fit.
I found the nails to be a bit bendable and soft, however this made removing them super easy. It also allowed the faux nail to easily take the shape of my own nail, thus making it fit perfectly. The length of all the nails was just right and felt super natural as well. I also really liked how the glue adhesive on the back was strong and also textured so it grips well on the nail.
The only negative about this product was the awkward plastic stub that each one had on the end. It could be easily filed off, however I don't understand why it was there in the first place. When I tried to 'sand' it down, it made some of the design come off on the very edge. I'm thinking that piece was maybe just part of the mold, however I wish it was already taken off for the consumer.
Throughout the time I was wearing them, the print stayed in tact and remained shiny. There was a bit of wear on the very tips, however that might have been from filing or just general use of my hands.
How to
The directions were clear on how to apply the press-ons to last the longest. Use the prep pad to clean the nails, pick out the correct nail size for each finger, pull back the clear plastic piece, align the side with the tab with the cuticle, and apply the nail base down first and press. So simple, but doing it the 'right way' will make sure they stay on as long as possible. Double check to make sure they all fit correctly and aren't lifting anywhere. It can be embarrassing when one pops off (been there, done that).
Lasting Power
This nail set claims to last up to 7 days when applied properly. I found mine lasted about 2 full days until a few of the nails began to loosen up and look as if they were ready to fall off. I didn't want to waste any of the extra nails in the kit so I used some nail glue to reapply it and that worked fine.
I wasn't particularly gentle with my nails, however I was disappointed that they didn't last longer on me. On day 3, a lot of them were becoming loose so I decided to just take them off. It was as simple as peeling them like stickers and none required any remover liquid.

Find
I purchased these nails for around $7 at Wal-mart. They only carried a few different styles which was a bummer- but I think as these become more popular like with the Sally Hansen nail strips that there will start to be more options available.
The imPRESS website also says the nails can be found at CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, HEB, Boots, Superdrug, and more places. On the website there are detailed videos about the nails, a gallery of all the colors and patterns, as well as a printable $1 off coupon.

Recommendation
Although the short wear time was a bit of a let down, I would purchase this product again. I love all the fun prints and colors, and also the shape of the nail was very flattering and natural on my hands. I really liked the length and the quality of the nails themselves. This is a perfect kit to grab if you'd like a flitry and flawless looking manicure for just a weekend or one event.

Ion Silk Drops - A Review
Ion's 'Silk Drops' is a clear hair serum for all hair types that can be used to improve the appearance of unruly locks. A pea sized amount of this product is plenty to run through all of the hair as it has a relatively thick and spreadable texture. The bottle claims it will leave hair shiny, less frizzy, and more smooth and manageable- which I completely agree with.
Ingredients
The product is a lightweight silicone based liquid with silk proteins. It's benefit is not to improve the health of the hair an incredible amount, but to enhance it's appearance. It doesn't leave any build up, however as with any serum too much will leave the hair looking greasy. It also can be used on dry skin as a silky moisturizer that leaves a healthy glow.
Use
It can be used on wet or dry hair depending on the style. I love to smooth a small amount on after flat ironing to really make my hair feel soft and look nourished. I do notice after applying it that my hair looks more sleek with less flyaways and also has some added luster.
Another positive thing about this product is the incredible smell. It has a light scent of a sugary cotton candy that is so nice. It is also much cheaper than my other liquid finishing products like Morroccanoil or Bio Silk, and has the same effects in terms of appearance. The quality really impressed me, and made me decide to replace this product with all my other serums.
Find
I purchased it from Sally Beauty Supply for $6.99 with my Beauty Club Card (retails for $7.99 without).
I am so happy with this product and everything else I've tried from the Ion product line as it's inexpensive and super effective.
