Hair Journey 2.29.12: Update #2

Please read my story first so this blog post will make sense: My Hair Journey

The photo above is the length of my hair as of 3.1.2012.
It's been a full month since my last haircut, and the layers and length look about a half inch longer. It lost a little bit of it's shape due to growing out, and looks fuller on the sides due to a bouncier texture.

Products Used:
Ion Daily Solutions Silk Drops
It's a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product
Regis Designline Curl Lock Leave in Moisturizer
Rusk Str8 Anti-Frizz and Anti-Curl Lotion

Routine:
Leaving curly & natural most of the time
Straightened three times
Deep conditioned every three days when washing
No Aphogee this month

Health:
85% with less 'flyaways'
 More shine and bounce

The Low Down:
Definitely looks more healthy and feels more silky and soft
Washed it less than normal
Wore it natural more often (used less heat)
More shedding that usual from wearing ponytails & lack of brushing
Lack of water intake which I'm working to improve
Solid half inch of new growth from scalp
Waiting a few more months to color it again

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I will return the love as soon as I can.

  5. I just read your story, and it actually made me really upset. Your hair before was so beautiful, and even though you dyed it, you took good care of it. I am so afraid to dye my virgin hair, because I don't even want to damage it even the slightest bit. Fortunately, I have gotten the courage to finally get a haircut (my hair is about 30" long, it's getting out of hand). Having such long hair, I know how you feel to have cut it all off. Honestly, if that were me, I would be crying for weeks, even months. I was wondering, though, have you considered extensions? If you miss your long hair, I think you would love extensions, especially since they are super straight. Even though my hair is super long, I recently bought a set of extensions, simply to increase the thickness of my hair. I really wish you the best of luck, and I will be reading your updates on your hair journey as you post them. Your hair really does look beautiful though, considering all of the stress and damage it has gone through. Just a glimmer of hope to make you feel better :)

By the way, I just sent your prize over today from my contest! I'm so sorry it's so late, I just had a lot of work for my classes (double-majoring is tough work! haha) But it's no excuse! So sorry :( I'm sure it will get to you soon, as you are in the New England area (not TOO far from NYC) Ok I'll stop typing so much.

    1. thanks so much for taking the time to read it doll, that's really sweet of you..for me, it truly was heartbreaking what happened, i was attached to my hair so it took some time to finally accept that it was now short and it'd have to wait for it to grow. if you ever decide want to dye it, don't be scared just remember to always use salon grade products because they do the least damage and sometimes are even nourishing for your hair.. i actually have thought about getting extensions, i'm just not set on a brand i'm interested in yet. which ones did you buy & would you recommend them?
i really appreciate you taking the time to write & for the support hun, it really means a lot. i know as a girl with long hair you get what i mean when i say i was truly sad with i had to chop it all off.. it's like a part of me was gone.. i've gotten use to the haircut now; it's sort of nice being able to style it so quickly and easily, however i am now growing it out for a long, long time :)
& no problem at all, please don't be sorry! i totally understand being busy, school is a lot of work. i was just so grateful to win, it was a cool surprise :) thanks again, you really made my day xx

    2. I completely understand. I am ridiculously attached to my hair too, to the point where I get angry when people suggest I cut it. Makes me nervous to go to salons because they get too excited and cut 5 inches off when I ask for a trim! If I ever dyed it, I would go to a salon considering I have no experience dying hair, but it's so expensive to go to salons in NYC! But I do notice all the girls with super shiny hair, when I ask them what they use, they always say it can only get that way with dye! So frustrating haha. I bought Hello Gorgeous hair extensions. I am crazy before I buy something, I need to review everything I can find first. I'll probably do a review on them once they come in the mail in case you're interested. They are pricey, but the nicest I have found. Takes a while to ship though because they're custom made :/ Good thing is they have really thick sets, which, from the looks of it, you would need as your hair looks super thick. I bet it is nice to style it! Having curly hair seems like such a time dedication. Takes me hours just to style my long STRAIGHT hair, let alone if it were curly!

      :)

    3. oh my god, that exact thing happens to me too! i ask the stylist for a half inch dusting and next thing i know 2 inches are gone.. i'm like hey, do you realize how long it look me to grow that!! i would LOVE if you did a review on them, they sound really nice. pricey is sometimes good because the quality of extensions is so important so it looks natural. & yes, when my hair was long like yours it would literally take hours to flat iron it.. but it came out so pretty it was totally worth it :)

    4. Yeah, it's seriously such a hassle. I have a haircut scheduled for Thursday. I had to look for like 3 hours to find a good and reasonably priced salon around NYC haha. Hopefully the stylist doesn't screw my hair up! And I will totally do a review! I wish I had more time to post, but I've been so busy lately. Will definitely be catching up during spring break! And yes, they are very pricey but I think they are the best quality and thickest hair you can get for the price. I have heard so many amazing reviews about them! And an additional plus is that you can dye and curly them :) Ah yes, and I am so glad my hair is pin straight, because I don't need to straighten it. Unfortunately, I like my hair better curly which takes me FOREVER to do haha. And before I bought a curling wand, I swear my hair did not hold a curl! People with straight hair want curly hair and people with curly hair want straight hair. It's the weirdest thing! Haha <3

  9. Your hair looks really nice now, lovely colour!! :) I had super long hair before and dyed it until it eventually started to fall out :( So I had it cut off to around ear length, been growing it back now for almost 2 years and slowly but surely getting there! x

  14. Just read your story, I did something similar to my hair but with hair dye. I accidentally sent it green! *cringe* I damaged it so much with more hair dye trying to cover up the green I eventually had to have it cut really short to grow out the green quicker and get rid of all my damaged hair. I've finally after 3 years got it back to how it used to be, even my natural colour. Your hair looks lovely at the moment I think short hair looks great on you :) Xx

  15. This is so eyeopening and also inspiring! Thank you for sharing this info with us! I definitely won't be using a relaxer at home. I nearly bought one just last weekend, and I have coloured hair! So thank you very much!

Also, I love how you are making the most of this, documenting the growth and sharing it with everyone. It's definitely looking gorgeous!
